Blackjack History
Black jack, France and 21 Points
Originally, the game of Blackjack came from France as part of acceptable social code since French men had not only know how to win wars or conquer beautiful ladies, but also be a good card players with a few franks in the pockets. The name was translated from French vingt-et-un into twenty one as we know it today.
Blackjack is also an easy game to master as oppose to other complicated casino games, which might take some time of the actual gaming experience. All you have to do is to compile a result of an exact 21 points or as close to 21 as possible without exceeding 21.
So, how the English name Blackjack was created? Apparently, players received an extra bonus during the game if they drew a jack of spades together with an Ace of spades. To be eligible for that bonus, the jack of spades needed to be drawn first while the player calls for the desired black jack. That is how black jack became Blackjack in player's speech, may be as part of some linguistic change or may be due to mysterious coincidence.
Regulations and Rights
In the 1880s Blackjack visited America and decided to stay there for a while. In addition to its enormous popularity, it was not long before players realized the ease in which the odds of blackjack could be manipulated, what demanded immediate regulation of gaming rules and casino policies.
The government decided to make all gambling activities illegal, therefore, all gambling went underground in 1910. Such decision resulted in empowerment of various illegitimate structures. Eventually, the government decided to legalize gambling and at this point blackjack became by far the most popular gambling game of any casino.
Casino Policies Changed
With time players developed new strategies to manipulate the odds into their favor, for example card counting. The idea of adding a second and third deck to the game to make card counting harder changes the odds back into casinos favor, but unfortunately, this is no longer enough since players come up with more intriguing ideas every day.
