The film industry and especially Hollywood has often used poker and casinos in their movies. The first has been usually associated to the underground world whereas the second has been connected to glamour and luxury. Here, we offer you an outline of some of the best poker films in history and we recommend you to watch them if you haven't yet.

The Cincinnati Kid

Screened in 1965, this is one of the most famous poker movies in history. Starred by Steve McQueen, this movie does not show the most professional face of poker but the philosophy of the game itself.

Rounders

It is one of the most modern films listed here. It was screened in 1998 and provoked a real poker boom in the 1990's. This poker film includes some great poker scenes and focuses on the ability of poker players to read their opponents' thoughts.

The Sting (1974)

Starred by Robert Redford and Paul Newman, this film is not only about poker but gambling in general and cheating in particular. The music, scenario and acting are absolutely great. If you want to know what it feels like to be a cheater and live dangerously, you cannot miss it.

California Split

Screened the same year as the Sting, this poker movie focuses on the daily life of some gamblers. Directed by Robert Altman and starred by George Segal and Elliot Gould as poker players, this is one of the best poker movies ever. Besides, you have the opportunity to see Amarillo Slim (WSOP champion) playing a small role.

Born Yesterday (1950)

This is a classic poker movie starred by Judy Holliday and Broderick Crawford. The poker scenes are great and the movie was remade in the 1990's with Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.

Kaleidoskope

Shot before Bonnie and Clyde, this Warren Beatty's film was screened on 1966. Starred by Beatty himself, this poker movie is about a guy that marks the cards in a very special way only understood by him. In a head-up no-limit game his cards are changed and he is forced to play without tricks.
